Brittany & The Wild West

Beautiful Brittany- The “Wild West” of France

Do you find yourself daydreaming about your next vacation? Are you looking for a unique destination with beautiful ocean views? The “Wild West” of France may be just what the doctor ordered! Dive into the heart of Breton culture with us! Awe-inspiring scenery, gourmet offerings and the unusual mix of Celtic and French cultures await you! Here is just a sampling of what Brittany has to offer:

Cancale

The charming fishing village of Cancale is known as a “foodie destination”, well known for its oysters, which have been cultivated here for hundreds of years. Meet the local fishermen and oystermen, who will share what it is like to live and work along the sea. The freshest of oysters taste amazing with a glass of sparkling wine! Take in the views over the Bay of Saint Michel and visit the Old Town and the Church of St. Méen. Linger over a meal in one of the restaurants as you people watch. Perhaps attend a cooking class with a Michelin-starred chef. Cancale has so much to offer!

Saint Malo

Founded in the 1st century BC by Celtic tribesmen, Saint Malo has a fascinating history. It was here in the 6th century that two Irish monks, Brendan and Aaron, established a monastery. It was once also the home of privateers or pirates, who would use Saint Malo as their home base in between their raucous adventures. Of course, Jacques Cartier, one of the town’s most famous sailors, is known to have discovered Canada. It’s worth exploring Saint Malo both within and outside the city walls. Inside the walls, is the Citadel of Saint Malo and the Old Town with its labyrinth of cobblestone streets. A visit to the 13th century cathedral is a must! Outside the walls are sandy beaches and offshore islands. Of course, Saint Malo is also a food lover’s paradise!

Pink Granite Coast

The Pink Granite Coast a/k/a the “Cote de Granite Rose” is one of the highlights of a visit to Brittany. Stretching over 20 km. along the coast of Brittany, the pink granite formations are a delight to see! This is a place of spectacular natural beauty. Marvel at the strange sculpted pink-hued rocks, which look like pieces of a giant granite puzzle. This is a perfect place to get a feel for the region as the cool breezes whip off the ocean. Perros Guirec is the most popular resort here, with beaches of fine pink sand.

Carnac

Mystical Carnac, with its megalithic standing stones is truly a wonder! These granite stones, dating back to 4,000 BC, are thought to have had some sort of religious or ceremonial significance. Be sure to visit the village as well, with its fine beaches and charming port.

Active Adventures in Brittany

Looking for a little adventure while you are in Brittany? We can certainly organize anything that your heart desires. Some of our favorites are private fishing trips or sailing lessons. Whether for a few hours or a full day, let one of our guides take you on a traditional sailing ship with one of the local seamen, where you learn how to sail an old time vessel. This is a great way to experience Brittany by sea, the way that generations of Bretons have! Windsurfing, diving, surfing and kayaking are at your disposal. We can arrange for private lessons or if you are a “pro”, we can make suggestions of where to go and get you everything you need to pursue one of your favorite pastimes!
