What does your evening have in store for you? Perhaps you will sample some traditional cuisine, which include choucroute (saukeraut), Backeoffe (vegetable and meat stew) and Flammekueche (tarte flambée). Of course, being in Colmar, you should indulge in tasting the white wine that is emblematic of the region. With strong German influences, Alsatian wines come in red, white and rosés but some say that the most notable wines from this region are the exceptional dry Rieslings and Geurztraminer wines. Luxury French Travel Itinerary: Colmar

Are you ready for another day of adventure? Start the morning exploring the Petite Venise, a delightful labyrinth of small canals, which you can visit in a flat-bottomed boat. When you return to dry land, its time to wander the old town and marvel at the architectural and historical wonders of the Saint-Martin Collegiate Church, the Maison Pfister or the Unterlinden Museum, which holds the renowned Issenheim Altarpiece. Stop for a bite to eat at one of the Alsatian “winstubs’ (literally meaning a “room where one can get wine”), where you will enjoy the convivial atmosphere, food and even a glass or two of Riesling.

A great afternoon visit to the town of Neuf-Brisach and its fortress is an excellent diversion. Located a short distance east of Colmar, the fortress of Neuf-Brisach was originally built by the Celts, standing ominously on a rock overlooking the Rhine. The current fortress, built at the behest of Louis XIV in1699, is unique in that it is the perfect shape of an octagon. Return to your hotel in Colmar for overnight.
