HERE ARE SOME OF OUR FAVORITE RESORTS

Chamonix

Chamonix is probably the most famous of all of the resorts in the Alps. With stunning views of Mont Blanc, it is the perfect vacation place for both winter and summer adventures. Located not far from the Italian border, Chamonix has an authentic Alpine feel and is the oldest ski resort in all of France. Some of the best expert skiing can be had here with skiers navigating around and over crevasses and glaciers. This is not a beginner mountain but an excellent choice for the intermediate skier (and above). The traditional village has welcoming shops and restaurants and breathtaking views. This is not a ski-in/ski-out village and as such, you will need to take your gear with you in order to enjoy a day on the slopes. Chamonix is also great during the summer season, when they offer rafting, rock climbing and paragliding.

Courchevel

Courchevel is made up of a few villages that become increasingly more posh as you go up the mountains. It is one of the eight resorts in the Trois Vallées (3 Valleys), arguably one of its most well-known. Courchevel 1850 is a picturesque village at the top of the mountain with numerous luxury 5* options for the sophisticated traveler. It has the feeling of an exclusive Alpine resort, offering high end shopping, Michelin-starred restaurants and some of the best groomed pistes in the Trois Vallées ski area. Its perfect for beginners and experts alike, making it a great choice for all! This is the famed glamorous village that people think of when they hear the name “Courchevel”. Courchevel 1650 is further down the mountain and has nice access to the extensive ski lift network. It also has some lovely accommodations, most of which are ski-in ski-out with great outdoor spaces for apres-ski. Courchevel Le Praz (a/k/a Courchevel 1300) sits at the base of the resort and has a rustic feel. It links into the the Trois Vallées ski area and is only two lifts away from either Méribel or Courchevel 1850. It has lively bars and some more casual French country restaurants.

Megeve

Megeve began as a farm village many centuries ago and developed into a luxury destination in the 1920s when the Baron de Rothschild fell in love with the area. Only an hour drive from Geneva, and 30 minutes from Chamonix, Megeve has stunning views of Mont Blanc, excellent skiing and a busy night life with live music, cabaret and apres-ski on the main square. There are a multitude of Michelin-starred restaurants, 5* hotels and luxury chalets. You can purchase one ski pass for access to the runs in Italy, Switzerland and France based out of Megeve.

Méribel

Méribel is in the heart of the Trois Vallées (3 Valleys) and is known for its exceptional skiing. It annually hosts major events like the finals of the World cup Alpine Ski in 2015. It is a ski-in/ski-out resort that has a quaint, laid-back feel to it. The village with its traditional Alpine architecture is charming and the perfect place to shop, dine and enjoy time with family and friends. This is a good choice for families, with pistes for all levels, an internationally known terrain park and of course, the Olympic Centre with an ice rink, pool spa and even a climbing wall. The nightlife here is some of the best in the area, geared toward a fun, casual crowd. There are lovely accommodations with plenty of choices for all of your needs.

Tignes

Tignes is one of the highest resorts in the Alps and as such, is able to open earlier and close later in the season (end of November until May 1st). Its claim to fame is its location at the base of one of Europe’s largest glaciers, La Gande Motte and of course, you can take the funicular up to the glacier for a breathtaking view. Tignes is conveniently adjacent to Val d’Isere with linking lifts, allowing skiers access to over 180 miles of runs. It is a ski-in/ski-out resort with a beautiful lake that allows skating, ice diving and paragliding. The village has some excellent gastronomic restaurants as well as casual offerings for those who want to kick back and relax.

Val d’Isere

Val d’Isere is a resort that combines the charm of a bustling authentic Alpine village with some of the best skiing around. Surrounded by the mountains’ spiky peaks, it is the home of many Olympic champions as well as host to some of the 1992 Winter Games. Val d’Isere is most well suited for intermediate and expert skiers but does have some runs for beginners too. It is conveniently adjacent to the Tignes resort, opening up the possibility for even more pistes to explore. Like Tignes, Iit opens earlier and closes a bit later than most of the resorts in the Alps (end of November until about May 1st). Although there are some ski-in/ski out properties, most accommodations are located in the village, which has excellent shopping, casual pubs and of course, the Folie Douce, for some fun nightlife.

Val Thorens

Val Thorens is the highest ski resort in the Alps and as such, has some of the best snow. Because of its location, it also has one of the longest ski seasons and the terrain is world-renowned. This is where you want to go if skiing is your only pursuit during your visit to the Alps. It has 100 percent ski-in/ski-out accommodations and a casual, friendly atmosphere that beckons you to return each year. The facilities have high-tech ski lifts that take you to the highest peaks with views over more than 1,000 mountaintops and of course, you have access to all 600 km of slopes in the Trois Vallées.
